Welcome to Waloyo!
Join us on our mission to ensure enough skilled talent for the future and to enable today’s youth to build career paths that can get them and their families out of the poverty cycle!
Waloyo helps the youth to gain future workplace skills starting with coding (computer programming/ basic digital skills). Once youths have access to computer equipment and internet, many other training and skill development options become possible.
We chose coding because:
It builds future skills that will help the youth to actively participate in the global digital economy
They learn critical thinking and problem solving, skills they can immediately apply in their own lives
Through the training they learn to collaborate, communicate and lead – skills that are helpful at any age but certainly key to building their future career
They learn creativity and to express themselves visually
Our world needs digital skills!
You probably are aware that there is already a global workplace shortage of digital skills:
57% of enterprises in EU countries, find it difficult to fill ICT specialist roles
65% of job current opportunities in sub-Saharan Africa, require a basic level of digital skills
The current skills shortage is already costly and future growth is at risk. Accenture estimated that the cumulative gross domestic product (GDP) growth at risk by 2028, amounts to US$11,5 trillion if the skills gap is not addressed. This equates to losing approximately 1.1% of GDP growth on average. In South Africa there is a potential loss of 1.8% GDP growth.
And the need for digital skills is growing:
230 million jobs in Sub-Saharan Africa will require digital skills by 2030
65% of children entering primary school today, will end up working in a job that does not yet exist.
Our world also needs other future workplace skills
According to the IFC the top 7 future workforce skills are:
Waloyo includes all the above skills in the code training program.
