Training Content
Waloyo's digital skills training is a core future workplace skill and offers youth the opportunity to learn:
Problem-solving skills
Critical thinking skills
Collaboration and communication
Leadership
Creative expression
Principles:
Waloyo combines existing best-in-class training modules from reputable organisations like Scratch Foundation, Raspberry Pi Foundation, and Google (among others), in an easy-to-follow online learning roadmap that can be tailored per group.
The target audience is school-going youths between 6 – 18 years old.
The online work areas prioritise youth safety, as they collect minimal personal information, and protect individual identities.
As an extramural activity, parental permission is required.
Training is typically project-based.
Most projects offer a basic version and opportunities for further enhancement to challenge those who work faster. Assessment is therefore built in.
Groups are arranged in classes by computer skill and broad age groups.
Waloyo provides online facilitator notes, online activity instructions and directs youths to the spaces where they can complete each project/ lesson.
Training topics per age group:
Program Schedule:
Classes are facilitated outside school hours.
Each group contains 15 – 30 learners depending on the computers available. (It is possible to have 2 youths per computer in a group so they can support each other, provided each one has a chance to operate the computer/ laptop.)
Classes are 45 – 60 min weekly and each group will attend 30 classes within 12 months.
Aim to have at least 5 groups per location positively impacting at least 75+ youths
Where there is additional budget to cover facilitator fees, holiday classes/ workshops can be hosted during school holidays.
